The Wedding Day
Graham and Brielle scheduled their wedding for late September at a luxury waterfront resort near Charleston. I learned the date through Dana.
The same week, my doctor told me my daughter might arrive earlier than expected.
She did.
On the morning of Graham’s wedding, I went into labor. By afternoon, while Graham was standing in front of hundreds of guests promising Brielle a new beginning, I was holding our daughter for the first time.
I named her Lucy.
She had Graham’s dark hair. But when her tiny fingers wrapped around mine, I wasn’t thinking about him. I was thinking about everything I wanted her life to be.
Safe. Steady. Loved without conditions.
Forty minutes later, Graham appeared at my hospital door.
