The Moment Everything Changed
The following evening, the house was being prepared for an event.
Lights. Flowers. Guests expected.
Everything looked flawless.
Daniel sat alone in the dining room, staring at a cup of coffee gone cold.
Clara stepped inside and quietly closed the door behind her.
It was the first time she had ever done that.
“Mr. Hale,” she said, steady but firm.
“I need you to come with me. As Rowan’s father.”
Something in her tone made him stand immediately.
No hesitation.
In the nursery, she placed the report in his hands.
Then she played the recording.
Lillian’s whisper filled the room.
Silence followed.
Daniel read the report once.
Then again.
And again.
His expression shifted slowly.
Confusion.
Disbelief.
Then something sharper.
“This isn’t possible,” he said quietly.
Clara met his gaze.
“He is not weak by chance.”
The room felt colder.
Something inside Daniel changed.
“Lock this door,” he said, his voice low and controlled.
“Don’t open it for anyone but me.”
