The Whisper Behind the Door
It happened one quiet afternoon.
Clara was cleaning near the kitchen when she noticed the pantry door slightly ajar. She was not trying to listen.
But then she heard voices.
Lillian’s voice.
Soft. Controlled.
Inside, Nora was preparing Rowan’s bottle.
Lillian stepped closer and lowered her voice.
“Not too much today,” she murmured. “Daniel already thinks he looks weaker. It has to stay gradual.”
Clara froze.
Nora opened a small bottle and mixed a clear liquid into the formula.
“It keeps him calm,” Nora replied. “And reduces his appetite. It won’t raise suspicion.”

Clara’s heart began to pound.
“We just need a little more time,” Lillian continued. “Once everything is finalized, it won’t matter anymore.”
The words were cold.
Precise.
Deliberate.
Clara stepped back slowly, her hands shaking.
This was not neglect.
This was a decision.
