THE DOCTOR’S WARNING
Moments later, the door burst open.
Dr. Cásia Drumon, the twins’ pediatrician, swept into the room, her heels clicking sharply against the floor. At 38, she carried herself with the confidence of someone used to control — and her presence instantly changed the air.
“What’s going on here?” she demanded.
When Rafael explained, her expression hardened. “You shouldn’t let the staff handle the babies! They’re fragile.”
“But look at them!” Rafael insisted. “They’re sleeping!”
Dr. Cásia’s eyes flicked to Renata, cold and calculating. “Coincidence,” she muttered. “They need proper care, not sentimentality.”
Renata said nothing, but her instincts screamed that something wasn’t right.
That night, as Dr. Cásia gave the twins their “medication,” Renata noticed something odd — the babies’ peacefulness vanished within minutes. They whimpered, then cried harder than before.
Her stomach twisted.
Something was wrong with those bottles.
