The Daughter Who Refused the Plan
While my brothers spent evenings running stock-market simulations with my father, I buried myself in books about the Supreme Court and civil rights law.
Dinner conversations often turned into battlegrounds.
My father would listen to my arguments, then calmly cut into his steak before dismissing them with a single sentence.
“The law is for people who couldn’t succeed in finance,” he would say.
“It reacts to problems instead of preventing them.”
At the time, I had no idea how ironic those words would eventually become.
