An eight-year-old girl sleeps alone, but every morning she says her bed feels “too small.” When her mother checks the security camera at 2 a.m., she breaks down in silent tears…

2 A.M. — THE MOMENT I’LL NEVER FORGET

I woke up thirsty.

As I walked through the house, I instinctively opened the camera feed on my phone—just to check.

And then…

I froze.

On the screen, Emily’s bedroom door slowly opened.

A figure stepped inside.

Slender frame.
Gray hair.
Slow, uncertain movements.

I covered my mouth as my heart began to race.

It was my mother-in-law.

Margaret Mitchell.

She walked straight to Emily’s bed.
Gently lifted the blanket.

And then lay down beside her granddaughter.

As if it were her own bed.

Emily shifted, pushed toward the edge of the mattress. She frowned in her sleep but didn’t wake up.

I did.

I cried without making a sound.
