The young soldier had come to her father’s birthday. She had left the family home to become a soldier, a decision her family disapproved of.

It was the first time she had returned since her departure. Everyone was surprised to see her and began to whisper.

Her stepmother, when she noticed her, walked up to her with a dissatisfied look: “So you finally came?”

Then she added: “Look at yourself… you left your family to become a simple soldier. You have no success in life and now you come back. You have brought shame upon our family!”

The girl bowed her head without answering, because she had expected such a situation. The guests around them remained silent: some looked away, others seemed shocked.

Her stepmother continued: “Go back where you came from. Your father doesn’t want to see you.”

At that moment, a commander entered, apologized to the guests, and said something that left everyone speechless.

The commander entered the room, looked around briefly, and then fixed his gaze on the young woman.

“I apologize for this interruption, but the situation could not wait,” he said calmly.

The stepmother frowned, confused.

The commander continued: “I have come to pick up the captain of the operation. An emergency has been declared.”

The young woman slowly lifted her head.

For the first time, her gaze was no longer uncertain.

“Captain?” whispered a guest.

The commander nodded. “She has been nominated for the rank of commander, and her appointment was approved a few days ago.”

He paused. “And without her, this mission would have failed.”

The girl stood up and gave a brief greeting.

The stepmother stood frozen, unable to react to what she had just heard.
