Today, cremation has become increasingly common in many cultures.
However, for people of Christian faith, an important question often arises: does choosing cremation represent a spiritual wrongdoing, and what do the Holy Scriptures say about it?
To understand this issue, it is essential to acknowledge God’s sovereignty over human life. The Bible does not directly forbid cremation, although it does contain passages that speak about how the body is treated after death.
Traditionally, burial was the primary practice among the Israelites.
This can be seen in biblical accounts such as Abraham purchasing a burial place for Sarah, and Joseph’s body being carried from Egypt to be laid to rest in Canaan.
Even so, the way a body is laid to rest does not limit the absolute power of the Creator. Christian belief teaches that God’s will guarantees the final resurrection, regardless of whether the body has returned to dust or been reduced to ashes.
What matters most is honoring the deceased and placing full trust in the Lord’s eternal purpose and boundless grace.
