A Living Room Turned Courtroom
The living room felt less like a home and more like a courtroom.
Conrad’s parents sat stiffly on the couch. His brother Potter stood beside the fireplace. His sister Fen lingered near the corner.
Across from them were the bride’s parents, standing with their arms crossed like watchful guards.
And in the center of it all sat Lauren.
Her nose was broken. Both eyes were badly bruised. Bandages wrapped across her face as she carefully wiped tears around the swelling.
She cried loudly.
But my focus wasn’t on her.
It was on my son.
