The Truth That Changed the Room
The accident wasn’t my fault.
The investigation showed my brother had been driving illegally. He’d taken the car without permission. He had been speeding.
And my mother had pressured me to take the blame.
She needed someone to sacrifice. I was convenient.

My brother’s face drained of color.
“That’s not possible,” he whispered. “Mom?”
She screamed, “She’s lying!”
But the paperwork didn’t flinch.
The silence afterward swallowed the room.
