The Documents He Never Expected Me to Keep
Philip approached me in the hallway.
His confidence had faded.
“Mrs. Bellamy, are there additional records we should know about?”
“Yes.”
“What kind of records?”
“Capital contribution statements, early tax filings, board notes, loan guarantees, payroll documentation, company emails, and copies of every ownership agreement.”
Gavin stared at me.
“You kept all of that?”
“I kept everything.”
Sloane turned toward him.
“You told me she had nothing to do with the company.”
“This isn’t the time,” Gavin said.
Her expression shifted.
For the first time, she no longer looked like the future wife of a powerful executive, but like someone realizing she had only been told a version of the truth that served him.
Across the hallway, Nolan and Parker stood beside the court officer.
Nolan pretended not to listen.
Parker didn’t.
I walked over and knelt in front of them.
“Are you both okay?”
Nolan looked at me.
“Did Dad lie to us?”
I took a slow breath.
I didn’t want my sons to carry the weight of adult bitterness.
“Your father didn’t explain everything honestly,” I said. “But this isn’t something you need to fix.”
Parker reached for my hand.
“Are we still going to live with you?”
“I’m going to do everything I can to keep your life safe and stable.”
Nolan glanced toward Gavin.
“Dad said Sloane already picked our bedrooms.”
Before I could respond, the clerk called everyone back into the courtroom.
