One Year Later

Noah climbs everything and laughs when I tell him down. Owen is quieter, watches the world closely, and bears a faint scar on his chest — but his heart is strong. They sit side by side, passing the same wooden block back and forth, two little souls who never should have been apart.
Elena visits often; they call her “Nana Lena.” When I asked why she risked everything to help me, she said: “I only gave you the truth. You saved your family yourself.”
The truth didn’t fix everything. It didn’t bring back the trust or erase the fear. But it gave me the choice I’d been denied — to love both my sons, openly, fully, and forever.
And every night, before I close the nursery door, I whisper: “I chose you both. And I always will.”
