A Pattern Hidden in Plain Sight
Evelyn called Grant that evening.
What she’d found was worse than he expected.
The hotel had been billed for premium ingredients while receiving much cheaper substitutes.
But someone had structured the transactions carefully.
Invoices were split into smaller payments, each staying just under the threshold that would trigger review from Grant’s corporate office.
“This isn’t sloppy accounting,” Evelyn said. “Someone understood your internal controls and built the payments specifically to slip past them.”
Three names kept turning up.
Douglas Fairmont.
Curtis Langley.
And finance manager Paige Rowland.
Then hotel security caught something even more troubling.
Someone in Douglas’s office had tried accessing old purchasing archives.
Minutes later, another account attempted to erase historical inventory files.
Grant had the technology team create protected backups immediately.
He didn’t stop the deletion attempt itself.
He wanted whoever was behind it to believe it had worked.
That decision paid off.
