A Young Girl Vanishes After a Simple Ice Cream Outing — And Fifteen Days Later, Her Mother Receives a Chilling Message

Eight-year-old Lily Anderson vanished on a warm Saturday afternoon in Portland, Oregon, moments after leaving “Frosty’s Scoop” with her father, Mark Anderson. Security footage showed them laughing, Lily holding a mint-chocolate chip cone. At 3:17 p.m., Lily skipped ahead toward the parking lot; Mark followed. Two minutes later, he reached the car — and Lily was gone.

Frantic, Mark searched the lot and called 911. Officers combed the area, but witnesses were scarce. One elderly man mentioned a white van speeding away; another thought they heard a child’s scream.

Emily Carter, Lily’s mother, arrived in tears. The couple’s recent separation had strained custody arrangements. Mark insisted he hadn’t taken his eyes off Lily. Yet detectives noticed inconsistencies: Why didn’t he chase her immediately? Why search the wrong side of the lot first?

Days passed. Search dogs found nothing. Cameras revealed nothing suspicious. Flyers went up. Community volunteers scoured the area. Tension between Emily and Mark mounted.

The Chilling Message

On the fifteenth day, Emily’s phone vibrated with a WhatsApp message from an unknown number. A shaky video appeared: Lily, terrified, sitting on a wooden chair. Behind her, a plywood wall. A male voice, calm and firm, ordered her:

“Tell your mother exactly what happened that day.”

Lily whispered into the camera:
“I didn’t see the man’s face. He put a cloth on my mouth. I tried to scream… Daddy didn’t see.”

Emily’s heart pounded. Relief that Lily was alive collided with horror. The man’s voice urged Lily again:
“Tell her who made me take you.”

“I didn’t want to go,” Lily continued. “The man said Daddy told him to take me.”

Emily replayed the video, unsure if Lily was being coerced—or if it was true.

Detective Sarah Milburn arrived immediately. Forensics traced the file to a prepaid phone purchased just days prior.

Mark, pale and trembling, collapsed in a chair as he watched. “No… this isn’t real,” he whispered.

The Suspect Emerges

Investigators focused on Daniel Price, a disgruntled former subcontractor of Mark’s. Price had a criminal record, disappeared after the lawsuit, and matched other leads: the plywood wall in his abandoned duplex matched the video, and Lily’s hair tie was found there.

Neighbors reported seeing him load boxes into a white van. He wasn’t on site, but detectives realized they were hunting a man with a plan, a grudge, and a hostage.

The FBI joined on day sixteen. Digital forensics suggested the video was uploaded from a rural Oregon logging area. Multi-agency search teams combed backroads, cabins, and sheds.

Emily received another message at 11:54 p.m.:
“Tell Mark to confess. You have 24 hours.”

FBI negotiators instructed her not to respond. Mark denied involvement, though his erratic behavior and past disputes made detectives uneasy.

Rescue and Revelation

On day seventeen, a search team located a hidden logging shed. Inside, Lily was curled on the floor, frightened but unharmed. Daniel Price was later found hiding nearby with a knife; he surrendered after a short standoff.

Interrogation revealed Price’s motive: revenge against Mark for past grievances, not truth. Lily confirmed she never saw her father speak to the man who grabbed her. Mark was cleared.

Emily held Lily for hours at the hospital, tears mingling with relief. Mark hugged his daughter quietly. The nightmare had ended, but the scars would linger.
