A Family Rechosen
They came back together.
Elena arrived the following week.
When Mason saw Ryan, his face lit up instantly.
“You’re the man from my dreams.”
“And you’re the boy from mine.”
Mason hesitated, then asked the question he’d been holding onto.
“Are you my dad?”
“Yes,” Ryan said quietly. “I am.”
Mason studied him for a moment.
“Why did it take so long?”
“Because I was lost,” Ryan replied. “But I found my way back.”
Mason turned and wrapped his arms around Lucas.
“Uncle Lucas is a hero,” he announced.
A year later, Mason drew a picture of their family.
Every one of them had the same tattoo.
“Why did you draw it like that?” Lucas asked.
“So we don’t get lost again,” Mason said simply.
And Lucas finally understood.
Sometimes family isn’t rebuilt by holding on to memories.
It’s rebuilt by choosing each other—every single day.
