4. Pregnant Women (Especially Third Trimester)
Ginger during pregnancy — timing matters
Ginger is often recommended early in pregnancy for nausea. However, in later pregnancy, its effects on circulation and muscle stimulation may pose risks.
Why caution is needed
- Ginger may stimulate uterine muscles
- It can increase blood flow to the uterus
- High doses may raise the risk of preterm contractions
Women with:
- Previous miscarriages
- Placental issues
- Preterm labor history
should be especially cautious.
Safer alternatives for nausea
- Warm lemon water
- Peppermint or chamomile tea
- Small, frequent meals
- Plain crackers or toast
Ginger supplements should be avoided unless prescribed.
