4. Space Heaters, Fans, and Irons
Any appliance that generates heat—or has a motor—should never be left plugged in when unattended. These are among the most common sources of household electrical fires.
Why unplug them?
- Space heaters and irons draw a significant amount of current, which can overheat outlets and wiring.
- Even when switched off, some models continue to consume energy.
- Forgetting one of these devices turned on can be catastrophic.
Tip: If you often use a heater or iron, plug it into a power strip with a timer. This way, the device will automatically switch off after a set period, reducing risks if you forget.
