Poor Girl Becomes Surrogate for Wealthy Man to Afford Treatment for Her Sister’s Illness, but is Stunned When, in the Eighth Month of Pregnancy…

Twenty-three-year-old Lily Brooks never imagined she’d end up as a surrogate.

But when her younger sister, Emily, was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder requiring an expensive treatment Lily simply couldn’t afford…
there was only one choice left.

For illustration purposes only

A billionaire tech mogul, Alexander Reed, and his elegant but distant wife, Victoria Reed, had been desperately searching for a surrogate after years of infertility.

The payment was vast — enough to save Emily’s life.

Lily signed the papers with trembling hands and a broken heart.

She told herself it was just nine months.

Nine months to save her sister.

She never expected to form an attachment.

Not to the baby.
Not to Alexander.
Not to the life growing inside her.

But everything came crashing down on a snowy afternoon in her eighth month of pregnancy.

THE APPOINTMENT

Alexander insisted on attending every medical appointment — but not Victoria.

“I just want to make sure everything goes perfectly,” he always said.

Victoria came only once, gave Lily a cold once-over, and never returned.

At the eight-month scan, Alexander sat beside Lily in the exam room, unusually quiet.

Dr. Harris, the obstetrician, smiled warmly as he prepared the ultrasound.

“Let’s take a look at our little miracle.”

The gel was cold.
The screen flickered to life.

There it was — the tiny face, the baby’s hands curled near its chin.

Lily’s heart swelled.

The baby kicked.

Alexander smiled softly.

But then… Dr. Harris stopped.

His face shifted.

His eyes narrowed at the monitor.

Then, he glanced at Alexander.

Back at the monitor.

Back at Alexander.

Finally, he pulled off his gloves.

“Mr. Reed,” he said carefully, “I need to speak with you. Alone.”

Alexander stiffened.
“What’s wrong?”

Dr. Harris looked at Lily.

“Please wait here.”

A thick knot formed in Lily’s throat.

After a tense moment, Alexander nodded and followed the doctor into the hallway.

The door closed.

But voices leaked through the thin walls.

Not words —
tones.

Urgent.
Shocked.
Disturbed.

Finally, the door swung open.

Alexander’s face was pale.
Dr. Harris looked uneasy.

He said only one sentence:

“Lily… I’m afraid there’s something you need to know.”

THE REVELATION

Lily’s pulse thudded in her ears.

Her hands trembled.

“What is it? Is the baby okay?”

The doctor hesitated, then spoke slowly:

“The baby is healthy. That’s not the issue.”

He glanced at Alexander before continuing.

“It’s… a biological inconsistency.”

Lily blinked.

“I—I don’t understand.”

Dr. Harris exhaled.

“Based on genetic imaging, the baby cannot be Victoria Reed’s. The DNA markers don’t match her profile at all.”

Silence.

Alexander closed his eyes.

Dr. Harris added:

“And… Mr. Reed’s DNA also doesn’t match.”

Lily felt the world tilt.

“What?”

Dr. Harris looked at Alexander.

“Sir… this child is not yours biologically.”

The room went dead silent.

Lily stared at Alexander.

Alexander stared at the floor.

Dr. Harris continued, voice soft:

“This isn’t a lab mistake. The genetic markers are extremely clear. The child is not related to either intended parent.”

Lily’s breath hitched.

“No. That’s impossible. The IVF was done at your clinic. We followed every procedure. I—I didn’t—”

Dr. Harris shook his head.

“I know. That’s why this is deeply troubling.”

Suddenly, Alexander stepped forward.

“Lily, listen to me—”

“Don’t,” she whispered. “Just… don’t.”

Her stomach twisted.

Her vision blurred.

Someone’s embryo was inside her.
Someone’s baby.
Not the Reeds’.
Not hers.

What had the clinic done?

Whose child was she carrying?

And why did Alexander look so… guilty?

THE TRUTH BEGINS TO CRACK OPEN

Dr. Harris cleared his throat.

“There’s… one more thing.”

Lily braced herself.

“We ran a secondary panel. The child’s genetic profile matches someone already in our system.”

Alexander’s entire body went rigid.

Lily’s voice cracked.

“Who?”

Dr. Harris read from the chart.

“The biological father is… Daniel Cole.”

Lily gasped.

Daniel Cole — the clinic’s lead embryologist.
A man arrested last year for falsifying records.

A man who vanished before his trial.

Lily felt sick.

Dr. Harris continued:

“And the biological mother is… Lily Brooks.”

Everything inside her collapsed.

She whispered, barely audible:

“I… WHAT?”

Alexander grabbed her shoulders.

“Lily — listen — they must have—”

She jerked away.

“No! No, this can’t be real!”

But it was.

The test results didn’t lie.

The baby she was carrying was hers.
Her egg.
Her genetics.
Her DNA.

And the father was a criminal who had disappeared.

The Reeds’ embryo had never been used.

Alexander paced the room, shaking his head.

“This is going to destroy everything. The contract— the legal rights— the custody— Victoria will—”

Lily felt like she was going to faint.

“Alexander,” she whispered, “I’m carrying my own child?”

He turned to her slowly.

And that’s when she saw it —
real fear in his eyes.

He whispered:

“Lily… there’s something else I haven’t told you.”

Her heart dropped.

“What?”

He swallowed hard.

“Victoria doesn’t know you’re pregnant.”

Lily froze.

“What do you mean?”

“She— she didn’t want the surrogate to carry full-term. She wanted selective termination if the embryo wasn’t perfect.”
His voice cracked.
“I fought her. I hid your pregnancy from her.”

For illustration purposes only

Lily’s blood turned cold.

“You HID it?!”

Alexander stepped closer.

“I couldn’t let her kill this baby. Even before I knew the truth.”

Lily backed away.

“So what happens now?”

Alexander looked at her with an expression she had never seen before.

Soft.
Broken.
Terrified.

“Now,” he said quietly, “Victoria is on her way. She knows something is wrong.”

Lily’s stomach twisted.

“She thinks the baby is hers,” Alexander whispered.
“But when she finds out it’s not — when she finds out it’s yours — she will stop at NOTHING to take it.”

The hallway outside erupted with footsteps.

Dr. Harris ran to the door.

Alexander grabbed Lily’s hand.

His voice dropped to an urgent warning:

“Whatever happens next, Lily… protect that baby.
Because it’s yours.
And Victoria will destroy anyone who stands in her way.”

The door burst open.

Victoria Reed stormed in.

And the nightmare truly began.
