If your sink is clogged, don’t pour hot water: Do this immediately to quickly unclog it and remove the bad smell.

Sink drains are very easy to clog. Pouring hot water is not the best solution. Instead, you can apply these methods to not only unclog but also remove odors.

For illustration purposes only
1. Use rice water and baking soda
  • Prepare some rice water in a bowl
  • Add an appropriate amount of baking soda and rice water and mix well.
  • Pour it down the clogged drain, the drain will slowly begin to clear.

The reason this method is effective is because rice water itself has strong cleaning ability, adding baking soda will make the effect even better.

2. Detergent and vinegar

In case the drain is clogged with grease, you can add a little vinegar to the detergent and mix it with 3 cups of hot water.

Depending on the product, the implementation method may differ slightly, but the most general process is as follows:

  • Dissolve the sink cleaner powder in water.
  • Pour the solution down the clogged drain/pipe.
  • Wait 60-180 minutes (depending on the type of powder and the blockage) for the powder to fully work to decompose the dirt in the sink.
  • Rinse with clean water.
3. Use a mixture of baking soda, vinegar and salt
  • Mix baking soda and salt in a 1:1 ratio, prepare 200ml of white vinegar.
  • Next, pour the baking soda and salt mixture into the drain and then pour in the vinegar.
  • Cover and wait about 1-2 hours. Pour more hot water into the drain to increase the ability to clean the dirt for the clogged sink.
4. Use spring wire and iron hook
  • Prepare a spring wire or iron wire, cut and straighten the spring with pliers.
  • Bend one end of the iron wire into a U shape.
  • Insert the U-shaped end into the drain pipe slowly, rotating it as you insert it so that the trash sticks to the hook.
  • Move the iron hook up and down a few times until you pull all the trash out of the pipe.
5. How to limit the situation of clogged sink?
  • Pick up food scraps and waste after preparing ingredients and washing dishes .
  • Do not pour grease or leftover food down the sink .
  • Use a filter net, clean and replace it periodically.
  • Occasionally run boiling water down the drain, even if the sink is clogged, to wash away excess grease.
  • Use a wire hook to immediately remove large objects that you accidentally drop down the pipe.
  • Avoid using water with lots of impurities and mud that can clog both pipes and faucets.
  • Use a simple sink unclogging tool that is easy to do at home.
